A burst water main at an inner city shopping mall caused chaos as surrounding shops were a-wash with water and large depressions in the concrete slab formed, causing a serious concern to the general public and the structural health of the building. Shops & businesses in the area were closed and were eager to start trading again as money was being lost
Solution
GeoScan was on site the same day, conducting a full geophysical survey, utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar over the affected area.
Numerous subsurface voids were detected in the area, and was mapped out using AutoCAD. The information was then used to select precise locations to core holes and pump concrete in to fill the voids and stabilize the slab. GeoScan performed two further surveys to make sure that the process was working and the voids had been filled.
